Adair County Health Department - Breastfeeding is Important to Your Baby’s Health, Now More Than Ever!

Breastfeeding is important to your baby’s health, now more than ever!

To keep a good supply, nurse your baby often, at least 8-12 times per day in the early months.

Spend lots of time holding and snuggling your baby, skin to skin if possible, to encourage your body to make milk.

Remember to drink when you are thirsty and eat some healthy snacks.

When you are away from your baby, be sure to pump at the times your baby would normally eat.

Sometimes, babies will go through normal growth spurts and they eat more often. Don’t worry! It can be tiring, but your body will make all the milk your baby needs. Ask your support team for extra help while you spend a little extra time nursing your baby. In a few days, you will both adjust and things will be back to normal.

Your WIC local agency can help you on this journey. Your baby has you, and you have WIC. wic.mo.gov

May be a cartoon of one or more people, people sitting and text that says 'Missouri WIC Eat Healthy. Stay Well. BREASTFEEDING is important to your baby's health, now more than ever!'
