Construction has begun on a new cancer treatment center at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri. The facility aims to bring radiation oncology services back to Northeast Missouri. Community leaders, representatives from Missouri Cancer Associates, and A.T. Still University officials attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
Patrick Avila, CEO of Northeast Regional Medical Center (NRMC), expressed enthusiasm about the development. "It is an honor to say that due to hard work, commitment, and persistence we are now in the position to officially return radiation oncology services by this summer," he stated.
The new center will allow patients to receive comprehensive cancer care under one roof. Services will include medical oncology visits, radiation treatment, medical imaging and marker placement, and laboratory tests. NRMC's team will staff the center while Missouri Cancer Associates continues providing radiation oncologists and dosimetrists. Infusion Oncology services will also remain available through Missouri Cancer Associates at this location.
A.T. Still University plans to collaborate with the center in offering additional support such as cancer education, resource assistance, and treatment navigation for patients.
The project includes a rendering of the planned Linear Accelerator and vault.
