Joseph Shoop is seeking the Republican nomination to represent the Second District for a four-year term. The primary election will be held on August 6.
Shoop is running against Gayla McHenry and Jeff Gottman in the GOP Primary.
Shoop has lived in Adair County for his entire life, and his family has ties to Adair County dating back over 100 years. Shoop has run his own HVAC business for over twenty years.
"I feel confident that my experience and skillset will make me effective in preserving the quality of living here as well as always having an open mind when it comes to finding ways to improve the lives of the citizens of Adair County," Shoop said in a June 5 post on Facebook.
In a press release, R.E.D. PAC — a political action committee focused on rural economic development — endorsed Shoop as a candidate who has "demonstrated unwavering dedication to the principles that foster economic stability, enhance transparency in government, and protect private property rights from excessive regulation" and as an advocate "for sensible solutions to local and national challenges, emphasizing the importance of strong community leadership in achieving long-term success."
R.E.D. PAC Chief Strategist Charlie Kolean also endorsed Shoop, saying he was a person who would "stand firm on issues critical to our freedoms and economic wellbeing."
The Commission comprises three members: one presiding commissioner, who is elected by voters across the County, and two district commissioners, who are elected by voters in their respective township districts, according to the Adair County Commission's website. Commissioners are elected to four-year terms.
Per the Commission's website, the Adair County Commission's responsibilities include roadway and bridge maintenance and repairs, establishing County policy, approving and adopting the annual County budget, approving expenditures for each County department, ensuring that the County complies with statutory requirements, and liaising with County boards, commissions, and other government entities. Additionally, the Commission is charged with representing the County on a number of regional councils.
