Congressman Sam Graves has announced the commencement of the application process for service academy nominations. Students from North Missouri with aspirations to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Military Academy, or U.S. Naval Academy are encouraged to apply.

Graves remarked, “It’s always an honor to nominate the best and brightest from North Missouri to attend our nation’s service academies." He emphasized the rigor and reward of the application process: "Each year, numerous outstanding young men and women from North Missouri go through the application process. It’s not an easy process, but it is certainly rewarding. Every student who has interest in attending a service academy should definitely consider applying.”

To apply for a nomination, interested individuals should reach out to Congressman Graves’ Kansas City District Office after initiating an application with their chosen academy. Eligibility requirements include being between 17 to 23 years old (or up to 25 for the Merchant Marine Academy), a U.S. citizen and Missouri resident, unmarried and without dependents, and satisfying the academy's medical, physical, and academic standards. Applicants must also exhibit good moral character and possess a valid Social Security Number.

Applications must be submitted by 5:00 pm on October 10, 2025. The nomination process is highly competitive, and applicants will be reviewed by an Academy Nomination Review Board, which includes academy graduates, veterans, and local citizens, before Congressman Graves makes his final recommendations.
