Cervical cancer is a preventable disease, yet it affects about 13,000 women in the U.S. annually, with nearly 4,000 fatalities reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Early detection through regular screenings is crucial. Hannibal Regional is offering free cervical cancer screenings to help women take charge of their health.
These screenings will be available on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 8:30 am to 11:30 am at Hannibal Regional Medical Group. Appointments are required. This initiative is part of Hannibal Regional’s dedication to improving community health.
“When we support preventive health for women, we’re strengthening the health of our entire community,” said Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Kendell Farr, WHNP-BC. “Women are often caregivers for others, and it is important that they take time to care for themselves.”
Cervical cancer screenings should begin at age 21 and continue until age 65, regardless of HPV vaccination status. The vaccine does not protect against all cancer-causing strains of HPV; therefore, regular Pap smears and other screening tests remain vital.
“If you're between the ages of 21 and 65 and haven’t had a recent screening, this is a great opportunity to take a proactive step in protecting your health,” noted Kendell Farr. “Screenings can detect changes early—often before cancer has a chance to develop.”
Women are encouraged to prioritize their health by scheduling their free screening today at (573) 629-3500.
