Rep. Sam Graves, who represents Missouri’s 6th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on social media asserting that House Republicans have taken steps to keep the federal government open while criticizing Senate Democrats for allegedly stalling the process.
On September 30, 2025, Graves wrote, “Let’s be clear about what’s happening: President Trump and Republicans are working to keep our government open. The House already passed a clean continuing resolution I was proud to support. On the other hand, Chuck Schumer and his cronies are threatening to shut the government”.
Later that day, he reiterated his position by stating, “House Republicans have done their job and passed funding bills to keep the government open. Senate Democrats are refusing to act and are putting politics ahead of the American people. They own this shutdown.”
On October 1, 2025, Graves added further detail: “The House passed the funding bill on September 19th. We did our work to keep the government open.”
Sam Graves has represented Missouri's 6th District in Congress since 2001 after replacing Pat Danner. He previously served in both chambers of Missouri's state legislature between 1993 and 2001. Born in Tarkio, Missouri in 1963, Graves graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1986 and continues to reside in Tarkio.
