Congressman Sam Graves, who represents Missouri’s 6th District in the U.S. Congress, issued a statement criticizing Senator Chuck Schumer and his caucus for not supporting a continuing resolution passed by the House on September 19. Graves expressed concern about the impact of a government shutdown on essential workers.

“It’s critical we keep the government open and continue paying our troops, air traffic controllers, Border Patrol agents, and other essential government employees who work to keep us safe every day,“ said Graves. “Chuck Schumer and his pals need to stop playing games and start doing what’s right for the American people. I can’t believe they can sit there with a straight face and demand things like ‘free’ healthcare for illegal immigrants—paid for with your hard-earned tax dollars—in exchange for keeping the government open. This needs to end today.”

Graves has represented Missouri’s 6th District in Congress since 2001, after succeeding Pat Danner. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 1993 to 1995 and in the Missouri Senate from 1995 to 2001. Born in Tarkio, Missouri in 1963, Graves graduated from the University of Missouri in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
